OCD
OCD is more than intrusive thoughts. It's an exhausting cycle of doubt, uncertainty, and fear that can quietly take over your life. Specialized, evidence-based treatment like ERP and I-CBT doesn't just reduce symptoms. It changes your relationship with your thoughts entirely.
Trauma
For many people with OCD, intrusive thoughts are shaped by past experiences the nervous system learned to fear long before OCD had a name. Treating OCD without addressing underlying trauma often means hitting a ceiling: progress that stalls, themes that keep returning. When we work on both together, that's where real and lasting change happens.
Anxiety
Anxiety is the common thread running through OCD, hoarding, and body-focused repetitive behaviors. They exist on the same spectrum, driven by similar mechanisms of distress and avoidance. These aren't isolated symptoms to eliminate. They're signals from a nervous system that has been working overtime for a very long time.
Relationships
OCD doesn't stay inside your body. It follows you into your closest relationships through reassurance-seeking, shame, and the exhaustion of hiding what's really happening. Relationship difficulties are often a symptom of OCD, not a separate problem. When we address one, the other shifts too.

If you see yourself here, this practice was built for you.

Why it matters who treats OCD

Most therapists are trained to support people through a wide range of life's challenges, and general therapy has helped countless people navigate worry, life transitions, grief, and more. But OCD is different. It responds best to targeted, evidence-based methods that require additional training.

Types of treatment I practice:

ERP

Exposure and Response Prevention

The most effective evidence-based treatment for OCD. Rather than analyzing your thoughts, ERP helps you change your relationship with them.

I-CBT

Inference-Based CBT

Targets the reasoning process behind obsessions, helping you see that obsessive doubt is a product of imagination, not reality.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Builds psychological flexibility. Helps you make room for difficult thoughts without being controlled by them.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

For trauma that shapes how OCD shows up. Many clients carry both, and treating them together is where the real breakthroughs happen.

Is Rossi Mental Health a fit for you?

This may be the right fit if

  • You're a New York State resident
  • You have OCD, trauma, or related anxiety that hasn't responded to general therapy
  • You're looking for a specialist, not a generalist
  • You're an adolescent or adult

This may not be the right fit if

  • You're in acute crisis needing a higher level of care
  • You're seeking treatment mainly for substance use
  • You need a court-ordered evaluation
  • You want general talk therapy without a specialty focus

If this isn't the right place, that's genuinely OK. Knowing where to look is part of getting the right help. IOCDF Therapist Directory →

You've tried to get better before. I understand why it didn't work.

That's not because you didn't try hard enough. OCD requires a very specific type of treatment that most general therapy training doesn't cover. Talk therapy, as helpful as it can be for many things, doesn't work for OCD, and in some cases can make it worse. You deserve to know that. And you deserve a therapist who does.

I'm Jessica Rossi. I've been a therapist since 2014, and I founded Rossi Mental Health Counseling because trained OCD specialists are genuinely hard to find in western New York. I use ERP and Inference-Based CBT because they're the most effective evidence-based treatments for OCD. Not because they're trendy, because they work. I also use EMDR for trauma, since OCD and trauma are rarely as separate as they seem.

At the heart of my practice is a simple belief: you are more than your diagnosis. Understanding who you are as a person, not just what brings you to therapy, is what allows the evidence-based work to actually land.

Reaching out is the first step

A consultation request is not a commitment. Tell me what you're struggling with, and whether you've had OCD-specific treatment before. I'll review it, and if this feels like a good fit we'll schedule a time to talk. If it doesn't, I'll point you toward someone who can help.
